Tim Morgan Selected to Receive United Way Community Spirit Award

At the VBA Clinic, volunteers are literally the key to all that we accomplish.  Over 240 volunteers – from Physicians to clerical workers – help the Clinic meet its mission of providing no-cost medical, pharmacy, and wellness services to the underserved of Charlotte County.

All of our wonderful volunteers make a unique contribution to the caring and compassionate culture that marks the Virginia B. Andes Volunteer Community Clinic.  So, it’s not an easy task when the United Way of Charlotte County asks us to choose just one of our volunteers to receive its annual Community Spirit Award.

However, as we surveyed the individual contributions of our 2014 volunteer corps, one person truly stood out as a volunteer’s volunteer – Tim Morgan.

We call Tim our “Jack of all Trades,” he can do almost anything and does!  After retiring from Eli Lily in Indiana, Tim moved to SW Florida. Rather than devote all his time to Golf, Tim sought out a meaningful   volunteer opportunity and found our Clinic in January of 2014.

Tim began volunteering as a Financial Screener; qualifying patients to ensure they met our service eligibility guidelines. Soon, Tim was offering to help with various odd jobs that needed to be done and became the Clinic’s “fix it man.”  When we needed something repaired, he was there – working on door hinges, moving cabinets, painting odd areas, all after his normal shift.    When we lost one of our Pharmacy Department Managers, Tim stepped up to the plate and agreed to take on the additional responsibility of managing the Clinic’s Pharmacy Dispensers.  In addition to managing the department, he serves on the Volunteer Management team, and trains new volunteers as they come in.

Tim liked the idea of being more involved, and decided to join the VBA Development Committee.  The Development Committee is charged with planning and staging the Clinic’s major fundraising events.  Over the last year he has been a vital part of our Round-Up and Luau Event Teams, and will be serving as the Co-Chair for VBA’s 2nd Annual  Round Up Event in October 2015.

Because the VBA Clinic has the best volunteers in the world, it was truly hard to choose one specific person to be named our United Way Volunteer of the Year.  However when we took into account all that he has done, we know that Tim Morgan was well deserving of this honor.  Congratulations and “Thank You” Tim for your dedicated service to the VBA Clinic.
